Isn’t it annoying? To just open your Whatsapp and find out that an unknown number has added you to a random Whatsapp group.
A link on Whatsapp’s official website stated that you only prevent being added to a group by blocking the admin of a group.
Now, WhatsApp has launched a new feature that should should solve the problem : a way to prevent people from adding you to groups without your consent. Within the app’s settings you can choose whether you can be added to a group by anyone, no one, or only people in your contacts.
You’ll find the setting under the Settings menu > Privacy > Groups.
The main reason for doing this is to reduce the number of misinformation/fake news that travels on Whatsapp.
Choosing ‘Nobody‘ to be able to add you to a Whatsapp group only stops people from adding you without your consent. A link will be sent to you to join the group if you want to. You can either approve or deny the invitation. If you don’t click the link within 72 hours, it expires and you’ll never be added to the chat.
The feature is available now for some WhatsApp users and will be rolling out to everyone in the coming weeks.
